All About Laser Therapy at Country Hills Pet Hospital
What is Laser Therapy for my pet?
Companion Therapy Laser is a surgery-free, drug-free, noninvasive treatment to; reduce pain, reduce inflammation and speed healing. It uses a beam of laser light to deeply penetrate tissue without damaging it. Laser energy induces a biological response in the cells called “photo-bio-modulation”, which leads to reduced pain, reduced inflammation, and increased healing speed. The laser light is delivered through a noninvasive hand-piece to treat the affected area. Your pet may feel a gentle and soothing warmth. Most treatments take a matter of minutes.

Can laser therapy be used with other treatments for cats and dogs?
Yes, we do use that in conjunction with multiple other treatment options, including medication and different types of therapies.
Are there any reasons we wouldn't be able to use laser therapy on my pet?
We do not use laser therapy when we have a patient with cancer. We don't use it on reproductive organs or eyes. Those are the main things we avoid using laser therapy for.
Are there any risks associated with laser therapy?
With laser therapy, there's very minimal risk. Sometimes we can see some skin irritation over the area of treatment.
What are the best options for treating with laser therapy? Are there specific dogs or cats that it's better for?
Really, almost any pet can have laser therapy. We use it all the time for arthritis, chronic pain, and wounds that are not healing. The only time we would avoid using laser therapy is with patients that have cancer, eye issues, or are pregnant.
How long will a laser therapy session last and what should I expect?
Laser therapy sessions can vary depending on how many areas of the body need to be treated, but typically they last between 5 and 15 minutes. Multiple sites can be treated per visit! You can wait in our lobby while your pet is having the treatment.
Can I take the laser home and do it myself?
Laser therapy is not an at-home treatment. It is something that requires visits to the clinic.
Is it just a one-and-done treatment, or how many times do they need this?
Laser therapy does require multiple visits. Typically, we start with two treatments a week for a total of 10 treatments, and then we decide from there how often they need to come in for maintenance.
